The crest is the extremely rare Pronkbok 'Prancing Springbok' Danie Craven wanted a unique rugby badge after all sports in SA had co-opted the Springbok as their representative emblem. So he designed something that for the first time included a rugby ball so-as to ensure its uniqueness to the sport. It was considered ugly and lacking of grace and the team went on an epic losing streak so it was considered unlucky. It was the most disliked emblem, yet it is now the most coveted by collectors. This design was used for only two years 1963-64.
